I’m finally caught up! Block 11 was released today and was presented by Fat Quarterly (Seriously check them out, I have their ezine subscription and it is full of great ideas, no to mention the fabulous blog posts).
Block 11 was specifically designed by Tacha from Hanies Quilts and it was the first block where I did not have enough of several of the fabrics called for. So I improvised and ended up using two extra fabrics, making the pinwheel in the center unlike any of the other block. I think it still works but keeping track of the different pieces was a challenge, so I sorted them into piles:
I made sure I kept to only the pink and grey and this is how it turned out:
This is my lumpiest block so far. So.many.seams. I’m thinking of putting some books on it for a few days. I am mostly pleased with it though. I’m going to be a flying geese master by the end of this, only 5 blocks to go!
Still about 1 more week before this beauty arrives!
I am so excited to finally have a proper machine! The one I’ve been using has obviously been getting me by but doesn’t have any of the features I want, and is developing tension problems.
I’m most excited about:
Well not really, but after cutting a million threads tonight it will be nice.
And not having to use this anymore (I hope):
I have started nearly every stitch through that scrap of fabric for the past 8 months. I am told lots of people do this to get a nice start to their stitching (and here I thought it was just me) but I’m crossing my fingers that the new fancy machine can start nicely without it.
Lots to look forward to in the sewing room!
