Waiting For Spring–Part 1

27 Mar

‘Waiting For Spring’ is actually the name of the Block-A-Palooza quilt. Finally after 8 weeks we have completed all 16 blocks. I anxiously awaited the finishing instructions and was pleasantly surprised to find 3 options!

Julie, from Jaybird Quilts did three different arrangements and they can be found here.

Option #1 has an applique center with the 16 blocks surrounding it, Option #2 has sashing and option #3 is set on point with setting squares. I would link the photos here but they are copyright protected and so you will have to go to the website to take a look at the three options.

I knew for sure I would not be doing the quilt with the applique center, it’s beyond my skill level right now and is not really my style. I decided to do option #2.

I cut out all the sashing pieces and squares and put them up on the design wall:

Then I played around with the blocks until I got them in a configuration I was happy with:

Now I just need to cut the border pieces, sew the whole works together and move on to quilting.  I’ll probably work on it bit by bit over the next few weeks. I’m heading into the worst month at work and I’m not sure how much time I will have for sewing but I am going to do my best.

    It looks great!

I’m so close to buying the fabric for the quilt-along you suggested. You probably already bought your fabric, which colour combo did you go for?

Your block-a-palooza looks GREAT! Nice choice for the sashing & cornerstones. Everything about it looks lovely.
